You don't have to be a super model to wear your clothes
well. Women gloriously come in every shape and size
that's why
at OnYou Fashion Consignments, we're diligent about stocking our inventory
from size 2 to 22. We're equally diligent about choosing items you can
wear to enhance - or minimize - your unique features.
But before you shop, know your body shape. Are you heavier on top than
on the bottom? Do you have a boyish figure with no boobs? Look in the
mirror and find out if you're:
Pear | Apple
| Inverted Triangle |
Diamond | Straight
Pear
You are pear shaped if your upper body is narrow and slender with smallish
breasts and shoulder span and your full waist and thighs make you wider
on the bottom. We've read that actress Goldie Hawn is a great example
of this shape.
When you're shopping, generally look for outfits that broaden your shoulders
and nip your waist to balance your heavier bottom.
At the top, consider:
· Square necklines, draped or cowl collars.
· Soft shoulder pads.
· Tailored, fitted shirts.
· Jackets that hit right at the waist.
· Lighter colors.
For the bottom:
· Straight, un-pleated pants that skim the hips and drape softly.
· Pencil skirts with a slightly tapered hem.
· Darker colors.
Accessories:
· Smaller, more structured handbags that fall above the hips.
· Chunky or ornate necklaces to help draw attention upward.
· Loosely tied scarves draped around the neck.

Apple
Round or apple-shaped women often have a thick neck, ample bust and
waist that starts to narrow at the hips with more slender thighs and
legs. We've read that actress Kate Winslet has this shape.
When shopping, look for tops and bottoms that work to visually square
off your shoulders and hips.
On the top, consider:
· Shirts and jackets with v-neck collars.
· Tunics or straight fitted shirts that stop at the hip or just
below.
· Small collars and narrow lapels.
For the bottom:
· Straight, fitted skirts with a slight flare at the hem.
· Straight-legged (un-pleated) pants with a slight flare at the
hem.
· Lower rise, plain waistband that falls at the hip or below.
Accessories:
· Avoid belts or waist ties.
· Structured handbag that falls below the hip.

Inverted Triangle
These women have broad shoulders and a narrow middle body. Some say
Jamie Lee-Curtis is a good example of this shape.
When shopping, look for items that draw attention to your waist down.
Don't try to hide wide shoulders with flouncy or oversized shirts, fitted
is often better and any prints or other embellishments should be worn
on the bottom half.
On the top, consider:
· Sleeveless shirts deeply inset to show more shoulder.
· Fitted high sleeve holes for longer sleeved shirts.
· Jackets/blazers with patch pockets (pockets located on the
outside/front).
For the bottom:
· Flared or A-line skirts.
· Trousers with flared hemline.
· Capri-style pants or Bermuda shorts with patch pockets.
Accessories:
· Low flung belts can minimize broad upper body.
· Large handbag that falls at the hip.
· Opt for a chunkier shoe to balance top and bottom.

Diamond
Diamond-shaped women are typically small breasted with narrow shoulders,
a voluptuous midsection and generous thighs.
When shopping, diamond shapes should look for clothes that elongate
the mid-section. Steer clear of heavy, wide-legged pants or body skimming
shirts - they will make you look short and frumpy.
On the top, consider:
· Curve-clinging tunic shirts that stop just below the hip.
· Tops fitted at the bust and flare at the waist should end just
below the hip.
· Shirts with pockets can enhance a small bust.
For the bottom:
· Choose pants that taper slightly at the hemline.
· Flat front, slightly low rise trousers and skirts can slim
and elongate torso.
· Slim, longer skirts (past the knee) that skim the body can
even out proportions.
Accessories:
· Medium-sized shoulder bag carried above the hip.
· Neck scarves or chunky jewelry will draw the eye up.
· Opt for shoes that match in color what you're wearing on the
bottom.

Straight
Boyish or straight-shaped women have slight breasts, wide ribcages,
flat bottoms and slender legs.
When shopping, straight shapes should look for items that create the
illusion of curves, defining the waist and lengthening your upper torso.
On the top, consider:
· V-neck shirts play up a smallish bust and elongate the neck.
· Jackets or blazers that nip-in at the waist.
· Shirt dresses with looser middle.
For the bottom:
· Semi-fitted trousers make legs look longer.
· Low rise skirts or pants minimize waist and elongate torso.
· Longer, fitted skirts are best.
Accessories:
· Avoid belts, you'll draw attention to the mid section.
· Wear larger handbags above the waist.
· A delicate shoe is better than shoes with thick, chunky soles.
